Free Credit Report Online – Once Every 12 Months
How much is theft identity protection worth to you? If you are like most Americans, theft identity has become a frequently discussed topic. Recently, a federal law called FRCA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) was passed to permit any eligible consumer to receive one free credit report – online, by phone, or by mail – once every 12 months. The rollout dates by region began December 1, 2004 and continue through September 1, 2005. Trusting your secure information to any other “free” credit report source might be a ticket to opening your credit to invaders. How Eligible Are You?
Annual Credit Report is an online central source handling all these free reports. Eligible consumers are offered one free report from one of the “Big Three” – Equifax, Experian, and
TransUnion. The rollout schedule is available at any of the Big Three CRA (consumer report agencies) or AnnualCreditReport.com. Each region can start to contact Annual Credit Report for a report based on the schedule below:
What Do You Need To Qualify?
You will be asked to supply the following information: your name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth ready. Also, one security related question (such as your mortgage payment) will be asked of you. Don't respond to any emails or pop-ups claiming to offer these free credit reports and wanting secure information from you – They are scams and not originating from FRCA or Annual Credit Report.
Experian is also offering free credit reports following FRCA, but not through its home website. You must visit FreeCreditReport.com for this confidential and instant report. The other two major CRAs offer free credit reports online also but in conjunction with other comprehensive packages.
